Welcome back, Friends of The Green Door.  Summer’s back.  No wait, not summer.  Today it was more like a nippy fall day.  Hold on now, the daffodils and lilacs are out in full force so it must be spring.

TRENDS
Well, it’s almost summer.  Does that preclude you from wearing jackets?  Absolutely not! (see above)  Lightweight tweed, cotton and silk jackets add dressed-up charm to summer frocks as seen at Chanel, Marc Jacobs, Oscar de la Renta and The Green Door.  We have had many ladies leave The Green Door with an armload of jackets including Karla Moran who now has one for every day of the week.  Don’t panic.  We still have plenty more.  Come in and partake before your size is gone.

LET’S TALK STRIPES
This spring, stripes – which have come back, according to the fashion press, at least four times in the past six years – are back again.  Evidently, we are deeply fond of stripes.  The mystery is, why?
Get this!  Did you know that British research has found that stripes can trigger migraines?  And that high-contrast stripes are reputed to precipitate seizures in susceptible children?
Stripes cause illusory jazzy motion, which nobody really understands.  Moreover, as anyone who has ever found Waldo in “Where’s Waldo?” can attest, stripes camouflage you in a crowd by breaking up surfaces, but single you out because contrast draws the eyes.
And here’s a tiny fact that you’re going to find very useful when you’re dressing yourself in stripes this summer . . .Dr. Peter Thompson at the University of York in York, England,  led a study in which subjects were shown pairs of identically sized women, one in horizontal stripes and the other in vertical ones.  The study found that vertical stripes consistently made women look 5.8 percent fatter.  HA!  You thought it was the other way round, didn’t you?!?
After having uncovered this startling truth, The Green Door has banished all its vertical-striped garments to the back room to make room for the more slimming,  horizontal striped  attire.

FATHER’S DAY/MOTHER’S DAY
The Green Door was pleased to have the opportunity to provide a few mothers the excitement of receiving a special gift from a husband or a son or daughter via The Green Door.  Truthfully, we’ve had a lot more Father’s Day traffic.  Nothing says “We love you DAD!” more than an Armani sport jacket!   (I hope you know I’m attempting to be funny here)  But really, if DAD is into labels*, what could be more exciting than a Father’s Day filled with Armani, Polo Ralph Lauren, Burberry, Cole Hahn, Brooks Brothers and Cabella’s?  And all for the same money you would have spent had you gone to a discount chain store . . . or even less.

Here’s what we have in stock for DAD:  shoes and boots, tennis shoes, socks, boxer shorts, bathing suits, ties, cuff links and tie tacs, shorts and t-shirts, everyday shirts, dress shirts, everyday pants, chinos, dress pants, sport coats and suits, cologne, athletic wear, golfing attire and gifts for the golfer.

And, although it is officially Father’s Day, think how pleased DAD would be if he knew how much money you were saving on his gifts.  Do you think he’d mind (if you stayed within the budget) if you picked up a little something something for yourself?  A new scarf, a denim jacket, a pair of swanky new shoes, a nice dress so you’ll look swell when you take him out for that special Father’s Day Dinner. . . . . Of course he wouldn’t mind.  You’d be doing him a big favour by not over-spending your budget.  Why he may even make you his new financial advisor……or not.  Only a month left to honor the man that brings home your bacon.

*You can always tell if DAD is into labels by watching the way he drapes his jacket over the back of his chair.  Notice if the jacket is LABEL out or LABEL in.

“Happy Satisfied Customers shopping at The Green Door.”

BOOKS, BOOKS, AND EVEN MORE BOOKS
We’re becoming over run with books.  All kinds of books – children’s books, coffee table books, books to use to get that lamp you bought at The Green Door to the right height to read the books you purchased at The Green Door . . .

Oh, and don’t forget about those BLANK BOOKS where YOU become the author.  The Green Door has at least 100 ready-to-have-your-life-story-written-in-them JOURNALS of all shapes and sizes.  (Well, maybe not ‘all shapes’ – most are rectangular – BUT certainly all sizes.  And I suppose you could use some of the unlined JOURNALS to illustrate your life’s story, as well.)

‘Cap of the Week’

“Just one more satisfied customer!”

THE GREEN DOOR GETS A FACE LIFT

Recently, using her expertise as an Interior Decorator, Ms. Merridy Reth spent an entire week one afternoon reorganizing The Green Door to enhance your shopping comfort.  Most impressive is her jewelry space design – very customer friendly.  Oh, and the new Children’s Corner with everything for your child’s room from pictures for the wall (quite a few originals) to that talking bilingual alarm clock I told you all about a few weeks ago.  (I know – can you believe it’s still here?!?)  Stop by The Green Door if for no other reason than to check out Merridy’s amazing organizational skills.

BATTENBERG LACE
On my most recent trip to Belgium and Germany I picked up three or four pieces of that famed Battenberg lace – beautiful – amazing work(wo)manship.  Why not add a piece or two to your home décor to bring some old world charm to your living space.

Some NEW ADDITIONS to The Green Door

The FACE of The Green Door changes DAILY, meaning that there’s always something new to look at and discover.  We’re adding this new section to our BLOG to keep you updated on a few “what’s new in the shop” items!

First off, here is a necklace and ear ring set made of wood and apache tears.  It’s got that refined rustic look.  It’s great summer jewelry.

Next, a 6”x3” COACH zipper bag/wallet.  It’s used, but in great shape.  It’s got that wonderful warm patina that only comes from seasoned leather.

More New Shoes.  This time in orange and turquoise in sizes 7 and 7 ½. The open toes make these perfect for summer dress up occasions.

A bit of SILVER.  The Green Door is adding three more pieces of silver jewelry – a charming bird pin and 2 pair of ear rings – the smaller of the two depicting the two sides of a buffalo nickel.  An interesting conversation starter if nothing else!

Here’s a small statuette of that flummoxed elderly doctor that we all know and love.

And for the Cat Lovers amongst you – a small porcelain white kitty with a puffed-up chest.  Guaranteed not to shed.

A hand-crafted Pottery Bell, clapper included.

Five silver-plated fruit knives (or you could give then as letter openers as they are quite sharp) with ornate handles.

And in the Hallway Gallery . . .Merridy has assembled a couple of outfits you will want to check out.  One, a sporty summer look, and the other, a lovely brand-new turquoise dress with a black lace overlay.  Perfect for someone’s next dressy occasion.  It was marked $149 in the retail shop.  The Green Door is asking around twenty dollars.

Don’t forget to stop by the weekend of June 4 as you are “Chocolate Strolling”.  We will all be here to make sure you have that unique shopping experience you are always up for!
