Well, WELCOME BACK to Blogsville.

MOTHER’S DAY is right around the corner and The Green Door would like to help you surprise your mother on MOTHER’S DAY morning. (At least I think that’s how it works!)  We have clothing and scarves and bottles of perfume and handbags and beautiful silver and crystal and we even have a mechanical cat that meows and flips its tail like a real kitty (in case your mother’s allergic).  And best of all – you can get really cool stuff for your mom without having to dip too far into your savings. It’s a WIN-WIN!

And while you’re at it, why not Get the JUMP on Father’s Day (19 June).  We carry men’s suits and sports jackets in sizes 38-52.  For Dad we also carry sports and dress shirts, shot sleeve camp shirts, jeans, chinos, dress pants, athletic wear, regular shoes plus formal shoes, tennis shoes and flip flops.  We have over 100 sharp ties to choose from some starting at $3.00.  And Boxer Shorts – all shapes and sizes of Boxer Shorts.  Also regular shorts and board shorts.  And finally, remember puka shell necklaces from the 70’s?  Well, we’ve got those as well.

Women’s Spring and Summer clothing is arriving daily and a few pieces of “Prom Wear” are starting to appear as well.  Unfortunately the tux jacket on display outside the shop walked away (and not of its own accord!)  Since we hadn’t hung the pants out with the jacket, we are thinking of sending spies to this years PROM.  Hopefully they will catch up with the guy at the prom who isn’t wearing any pants . . . . with their tux jacket and vest.  We’re thinking he’ll be easy to spot.  And just in case Mr. Sticky Fingers is reading this, we still have a couple pair of tux pants that he might want to look into purchasing.  Oh and we also have one pair of shinny, shinny patent shoes, size 11.

For the PROM attending ladies we’ve put together a real nifty outfit and won’t last long.  Picture this:  a lovely beaded top, a beautiful pink satin and organza long skirt, a Hard Rock CafΓ© denim jacket and a pair of lady’s hiking boots.  This is bound to be the most talked about outfit of the evening.  Hurry and snatch it up before someone else does!

Here’s that “Anything But Ordinary” shop owner, Merridy Reth, semi-modeling another PROM possibility.  This dress is brand new.  It still has its tags.  What started out costing $149 has been reduced by The Green Door to somewhere around $20.  It’s turquoise with a black lace overlay and it’s a size 7.

We have been selling treasures.  Our friend Joe bought a “goodly” amount of religious paraphernalia including our only Pope John Paul II clock.  He said he was using them as prizes for his Notre Dame class reunion this summer.  Lucky alums!

For those of you still searching for “novelty” clocks check out our “Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep” talking clock.  It’s bilingual and it recites the Lord’s Prayer when it’s time to get up and the “Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep” Prayer when it’s time to hit the hay.  And it also makes your morning cappuccino.

Why hasn’t anyone been in to pick up the lovely PRADA bag or the TOMMY summer tote or another one of the nearly 30-40 very reasonably priced, very chic summer bags.  I am assuming that the “Made in China” label on the PRADA bag was just a misprint.

Here’s a must have.  A glass bell with a tractor for its clapper.

T-SHIRT OF THE WEEK

Magnetic Kissing Dolls!  Are you kidding me?  These are very rare and would look splendid on your coffee table.  They are a very good conversation starter . . .

YOU:  Honey, wait until you see what I picked up at The Green Door today.

HIM:  Yes dear, I’m anxious to see what you picked up at The Green Door.  You know, that shop has everything from soup to nuts.

YOU:  Well, I’m not so sure about the soup….or the nuts…..but you’re right.  It does have its share of quaint, one-of-a-kind items and the men’s and women’s clothing selection is exceptional and very reasonably priced.

HIM:  Oh WOW!!!  Magnetic Kissing Dolls.  What a find.  I can hardly wait to show them off to Bill and Susan.  You know they bought the mechanical purring cat at The Green Door a couple of weeks ago and have been so smug about it.  These Magnetic Kissing Dolls will sure put them in their place.  Well done, Honey.

For those of you interested in CRAFT PROJECTS stop by and check out a new collection of antique beads and beadwork.  We have jars and jars of broken jewelry, small bags of semi-precious stones, and necklaces and bracelets that need to be reassembled . . .

I’ve included in this week’s BLOG a couple of MONKEY buys for my special friend Tina.  Hey Tina – It’s a MONKEY LAMP!  And a CROSS-LOOKING STUFFED MONKEY.  And yes, Tina, some days it does seem like we ARE in the Monkey Business!

YOU may not feel like making the trip to Mt. Vernon, but your friends might.  In other words, are you passing this blog along to your friends who like a bargain and don’t mind a drive in the country?  My friend Connie was in the shop the  other day and said that is exactly what she’s doing – passing along this informative blog to her friends who she thinks would enjoy a unique shopping experience like The Green Door.  Will you do the same and pass us along?  Pretty Please!

So that’s it for now.  Don’t forget we’ve changed the times we’re open:  W-S, 1-5 or by special appointment.

THIS is a picture of our BUILDING so you can find us.
