Well, it’s been a pretty slow week at the First Street Community Center:  home to Anything But Ordinary Gift Shop, Carolyn’s School House Antiques, Rm. 222, Enchanted Treasures and The Green Door.  But we all know business is going to pick up this week with Saturday’s Chocolate Stroll.  The Center is providing musical entertainment throughout the day in front of the building. . . .The Eastern Iowa Brass Band, the cast of Mt. Vernon High School’s High School Musical and a whole lot more. Come take advantage of our hospitality.  It’s truly a “Mayberry Moment” in Mt. Vernon, IOWA.

Inside, The Green Door  will have t-shirts on SALE for $1.07 and a table of $1 and $5 mark-down items.  And I believe the other shop keepers will have sales’ tricks up their sleeves as well.  So put The Chocolate Stroll on your list of Things to Do THIS SATURDAY!!!

A Little Bit of Everything

People are always asking me what they can expect to find when they are “Green Dooring.”  As one customer put it, “The Green Door is home to a little bit of everything.  It’s like an old-fashioned EMPORIUM.”

New to The Green Door

A child’s (or short person’s) SPIDERMAN SLEEPING BAG – recently laundered!

New pieces of Art Work:  The Little Girl and Her Kitty, a page from the book, The Tales of Peter Rabbit (in our children’s corner), a framed sketch of high heels, perfect for some shoe “collector’s” closet,  an Amish Scene.  All of this Art Work is in the form of prints, but expertly framed and much less expensive than in retail shops.

And speaking of our Children’s Corner, we’ve just added this sweet lamp featuring Pooh and his Friends.

Also, Four antique brown ware “bone” side dishes, a small plate that states, “MOTHERS are guardian angels without wings”, an 8”high ISABEL BLOOM signed statuette of a SNOWMAN, and last, but certainly not least, a white and gold porcelain angel music box.

We’ve added new pieces of jewelry to replace the ones we sold last week, some interesting new ear rings, brooches, bracelets, ladies watches and so on.

The Green Door is not one of those places you go looking for something too specific *(although with the list I’ve provided, that is now possible).  The Green Door’s merchandise changes daily.  For instance, we’re low on MEN’S DRESS PANTS, so  we add more MEN’S DRESS PANTS.  We’ve sold all our women’s shoes, so we pull another dozen pair from stock and bring them over.  I can guarantee you that there is something new every day to keep your Green Door shopping experience fun and lively.

The Green Door is the only place I know of where you can go and buy something cool for a few bucks and add to your wardrobe without spending more than 10 dollars.  It’s a sure cure-all for dark rainy days and a real pick-me-up for bubbling hot Iowa summer days (we’re air conditioned, by the way). Put The Green Door on your list of things you need to do this week and we’ll be there waiting to help.

Until Next Time
