The Green Door is blogging again. Hope you haven’t forgotten about us! But in case you have . . . .
This blog is coming to you via Taiwan as in – half-way-around-the-World-Taiwan. David started putting The Green Door’s Blog together when we first opened. His Visa ran out and he had to return to his home in Taiwan. But he promised me that if I sent him the copy, he would continue to put the Blog together for me. So here goes . . .all the way from Taiwan.
First off, thanks to all of you for your steady patronage. It seems like it’s the word-of-mouth advertising that wins out in the end. So keep telling all your friends and enemies (because it doesn’t matter which is which when you’re talking retail) about The Green Door.
Did you know that we add new items and clothing to the shop every Thursday, Friday and Saturday? Although you may see some familiar items the next time you stop by, there will always be something brand new sitting right next to them.
And speaking of . . . . here are some of the newest additions to The Green Door!
1 When you eat off these Salad/Dessert plates with scenes of Provence, it’s almost like whatever you put on them tastes French.
2 We have gotten in several pieces of pottery (bowls, cups, mugs, plates and yes, we even have a couple of Pig Whistles) – all hand crafted.
3. A tea-leaf coffee pitcher in mint condition will be a great find for collectors.
4. Here are two lamps – recent shop acquisitions. Actually, we only have the smaller solid brass lamp on the left remaining. The larger lamp went right out the door the same day it was being put on display.
5. It’s still not too late to make friends with the humming birds with this colourful Hummingbird Feeder!
6. You know we have assembled a “Kidz Corner” and we’re always adding new things. Like this colourful picture frame which says “Daddy and Me”. Awwww……how sweet.
7. More crystal: a small rose bowl, a small pitcher and a pair of candle sticks.
8. Here’s a unique piece of two dimensional art. It’s actually a photograph which has been cleverly manipulated into a lovely piece of wall art. And the subject – two glasses of wine – seems to get more and more popular every day.
9. Another Isabel Bloom statue. This piece is one of her earlier sculptures. Unfortunately, because it was priced well below retail (we are a THRIFT BOUTIQUE first and foremost) it wasn’t here long. The woman that purchased the statue said she was an avid collector of Isabel Bloom, her collection coming in at well over two hundred. Very often we get Isabel Bloom pieces. We are always on the look-out for original art.
10. Jars and jars of beads and incomplete pieces of jewelry. Perfect for crafting Christmas Trees on black velvet.
11. Men’s boots. At least I think they are men’s boots.
I guess they could be either. Size 8 ½
12. Find this blue and white stained glass novelty LIGHTHOUSE lamp with our small collection of novelty lamps which include a pig, the Last Supper, and one of those bucolic lake scenes.
13. We also just added 10 new ways to carry your money to our wallet cache. Some are Prada. Some are Coach. Some are Juicy Couture. Some are real. Some are not.
14. Here’s a cool piece of ART for your home inscribed with a clever suggestion for everyone. It says, “Wear the old coat. Buy a new book.” (We get new books in at The Green Door almost every day.) Well, at The Green Door, because our prices are so reasonable, you can buy a new book AND a new coat. I haven’t heard one person complain about our prices. I feel they are fair Thrift Boutique prices. The main emphasis behind the shop is to make it possible for everybody to participate in America’s Favourite Pastime no matter whether you’re a butcher, a baker or the CFO of AT&T.
15. Watches! Watches! And MORE Watches! The Green Door has a big selection of unique and distinct time pieces. And YES we do have several watches from Fossil. Now, say you buy a watch and when you get it home and put a battery in it, it doesn’t work. You can ALWAYS return things to The Green Door for a full refund or Store Credit.
16. We added this lovely vase just this week. It originally lived at Iowa Artisans in Iowa City, but when it came down with a small chip it was banished to the sale table. Here at The Green Door we believe in giving wonderful works of art a Second Chance even if they aren’t totally perfect. After all – who among us is?
